Mark Cavendish, center, won the sprint to the finish line of the 18th stage of the Tour de France
Mark Cavendish of Britain captured his fourth individual stage victory in the Tour de France on Friday, winning Stage 18 and establishing himself as the strongest sprinter of the day, if not the Tour.
Cavendish attacked late as the lead pack raced through the streets of Bordeaux and left his pursuers unable to respond. He finished ahead of Julian Dean of New Zealand and Alessandro Petacchi of Italy, but Petacchi retained the green jersey as the Tour’s top sprinter over all.
